Mr. Bud Lambert, Lead Tenor Banjo |
![]() |
Bud started his music career in 1934, at the age of 11, where for the sum of $1.00 per week he was given banjo lessons. After about a year of listening to him practice, his parents decided that they had just wasted almost enough money to buy a car!! So the Banjo lessons stopped, besides, Bud discovered "girls" and was not practicing enough to get proficient.( at the banjo!) So went the music career of Bud Lambert, until one day in 1986 after Bud retired, he decided that he needed a hobby, (other than "girls") |
His dad had left him his Paramount "B" Tenor banjo and he started playing with the Valley Strummers, a group of players led by one excellent player and a banjo teacher. ( No not Bud's old banjo teacher!) Anyway he was asked to sit in and read the music over someone's shoulder and when he got good enough they'd let him know. It took him about three months ( now that Girls were no longer a serious distraction) for Bud to finally get to officially play with the band. He had to copy somebody's music and make up his own book. Bud played with the Valley Strummers for several years and then moved to Florida ( he heard the girls were waaay prettier down here!). Bud moved to Punta Gorda, where he found out that all the old people moved to Cape Coral but their parents moved to Punta Gorda! Good thing he was already married! In 1988 he started taking a few more lessons from Warren Worthly, Ed Palfry, and Bill Pincolm of the Sahib Temple Banjo Band. Today he is a fantastic lead Tenor player ( although he won't admit to that). Bud plays weekly with the Gulf Coast Banjo Society as well as the Sahib Temple Banjo Band. He is also the Treasurer of the Gulf Coast Banjo Society, living in Englewood with his lovely wife Olive.Bud would never admit it but he is a great asset to the Gulf Coast Banjo Society, and we appreciate his talent more than we could ever say. Thanks Bud, your the best!!!
