OUR MEMBERS ARCHIVE

Each month we will spotlight one or two of our members with a brief biography and a picture.

Dr. Joe Prezio M.D.

Joe has been involved with music since he was 6 yrs old when he began taking piano lessons. From there he learned to play the trumpet, then the tuba and finally the banjo. Joe’s dad loved music, he played the trumpet and banjo a little and always encouraged Joe and his two brothers and two sisters to play an instrument. After college Joe started Medical school and it was difficult to play any instrument because of the pressures there in, then in private practice as well as Chairman of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at SUNY/ University of Buffalo School of Medicine.

Joe retired in 1997, and decided to pursue the banjo and the tuba with determination. Since then he has had a ball playing both. In Venice, with our own Gulf Coast Banjo Society, he has also played regularly with the Dallas Banjo Band, the Pittsburgh Banjo Band, the Erie Banjojammers and his home town group, the Summer Strummers in Chautauqua NY during the summer months.

Tuba has also been a great instrument to play with the Venice Concert Band and Northport Concert Band on a regular basis and until recently I also played with the Charlotte Concert Band. Up in Western NY they have their own Thursday Morning Brass group and the Chautauqua Community Band.

Joe says “I have had a great opportunity playing banjo with the Gulf Coast Banjo Society and now even more fun substituting on the tuba with them as well.”

We say, “We always liked Joe and thought that he was an excellent banjo player, but now that we know he plays the Tuba, we have to talk him into living here year round.”

Thanks for being a member Joe; you are truly an asset to the Gulf Coast Banjo Society.
