OUR MEMBERS ARCHIVE

Each month we will spotlight one or two of our members with a brief biography and a picture.

Mr. Mark Scarr

Mark was born in Ohio, many, many, years ago! After finishing high school he entered the University of Michigan. There he played football, basketball, and baseball, until he transferred to Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He earned a B. S. in Education and also a MAIR ( Master of Arts in Industrial Relations) degree from Wayne State University. For 35 years Mark worked for the Ford Motor Company as an Industrial Relations Manager. Mark continues to occasionally work as a labor relations arbitrator and travels the country settling union and labor disputes.

Now that Mark is somewhat retired he spends his off time learning to play the piano, playing his banjo and driving his poor wife Marcia slightly bonkers.

Mark and Marcia are very active in their Gateway community and he has served on the Club Membership and Grievance board, as well as holding the office of President of the Hidden Links Homeowners Association. Last year Mark and Marcia celebrated their 25 years of marriage by taking a cruise up the Danube River, visiting Budapest, Prague, and a number of other wonderful cities.

One can normally find Mark in the second row at Snook Haven, his rapid fire comments and dry humor usually keep those of us within earshot laughing and not paying attention to the music. He is a welcome member of the Gulf Coast Banjo Society and is always missed when he leaves to go back to Michigan. We'll see Mark in Buffalo, NY at the FIGA Convention where he will play with the Hoosier Banjo Band as a representative of the Gulf Coast Banjo Society.

Mark, thanks for your jokes, your humor and just being you..
